Private Judge
Columbus, Ohio Private Judge
In our family law practice, we have found that using a private judge in dissolution proceedings has many advantages over regular courthouse hearings. Many of our clients appreciate the confidentiality and convenience of private judging.
Ohio law provides for the use of private judges in civil matters (Revised Code section 2701.10). A private judge hearing proceeds just as a public hearing does – the only difference is that a private hearing is held in a conference room behind closed doors, away from the glare of publicity and spectators of a public court. In a private judge hearing, witnesses are sworn under oath, the parties’ attorneys make pleadings and motions, and the final judgment is legally valid and enforceable under Ohio law.
The advantages of using a private judge over public proceedings in divorce cases include:
-
Completely confidential
-
Saves time
-
Much more flexibility in scheduling hearings
-
Fast, friendly service
-
Reduced client tensions
-
Convenient suburban location
